Yes, and we designed it that way on purpose. Every Backroad Box shares the same connection system, so a Single becomes a Double whenever your gear (or your ambition) grows. You can even connect two different sizes, the drawers just won't be identical lengths.

The Upper Drawer opens forward between your front seats, which means it needs to sit centered in the vehicle, a position only the Double Box provides. On a Single, it would open into the back of a seat, and nobody wants that.

The full Backroad Box occupies the back seat while it's installed, that's the trade. If you only get a single you should still have one seat left. But because it straps in rather than bolting down, removing it takes minutes, not a weekend. Gear hauler on Friday, five seats on Monday.

Each drawer has a keyed cam lock. Combined with your locked vehicle, that's two layers between your gear and trouble, a genuine deterrent for trailhead lots and street parking. We'll be straight with you: no in-vehicle storage is theft-proof, so treat it like a locking toolbox, not a safe.

We ship the Backroad Box fully assembled! No tools required. You simply use your existing seatbelts to secure it in the back seat and you're good to go.

Yes we do, but you will need to contact us to make a special shipping arrangement. We offer free shipping to all customers in the contiguous United States but for anyone outside the US or in Alaska/Hawaii we will need to generate a custom shipping quote and charge accordingly.

All refunds (whether you're cancelling an order or returning a package) are subject to a 10% restocking fee, which will be taken out of your refund amount. Orders cancelled before production begins qualify for a reduced 5% fee instead. We do not offer refunds if your package has been received and opened. If you receive the package but wish to send it back before opening it, you can do so within 30 days of receiving it. We can provide a discounted return shipping label. DIY kits can only be returned in the original unopened packaging in which they were sent. Once we receive the unopened original package, we’ll process your refund, minus the 10% restocking fee and the cost of the return label.
