Most Transits make you sleep front-to-back. This one doesn't.

Driver and passenger flares push the walls out far enough for a fixed east-west bed, so you sleep crosswise, keep the entire rear of the van as garage, and never break down a bed to use the kitchen. It's a layout that usually requires a pop-top or a longer van, and it's the single best thing about this build if you're over five-ten.

The rest of it is a Camp N Car build from our Port Townsend shop. Finished this year, barely used, and still on its first set of everything. 17,500 miles on a 2023 AWD chassis with the balance of Ford's factory powertrain coverage still in play.

Drivetrain & Chassis
2023 Ford Transit 250, all-wheel drive, 148" wheelbase, high roof, 3.5L V6. AWD in a Transit is the quiet advantage in the Pacific Northwest which opens up forest roads, spring snow, wet gravel, and boat ramps. Clean title, no liens, serviced and ready.

Sleeping & Storage
Fixed east-west bed on a Heksa base with a prefinished maple bulkhead, bunk windows in both flares, and a slam-latch door in the bulkhead for pass-through access to the garage. Under-bed cabinets house the electrical and water systems behind clean removable panels. Metal headliner shelf over the cab for the stuff you want in reach but out of the way.

Power
EcoFlow 5kWh Independence Kit with 400W of solar, shore power, and alternator charging giving you three ways to fill the bank, so you top off driving, parked in the sun, or plugged in. Five 120V and three 12V outlets spread across the kitchen and electrical cabinet, dimmable ceiling puck lights throughout, and a new exterior light above the slider door.

Heat
Webasto gasoline heater plumbed directly into the vehicle's fuel tank, no separate fuel can, no propane, and one less thing to fill. It's mounted under a seat with ducting into the cabin, so it stays out of your living space and off your storage. AWD plus real cabin heat is what makes this a legitimate shoulder-season and winter rig.

Kitchen
Passenger-side galley in prefinished maple with a Plyboo bamboo countertop, fiddle rails to keep things aboard while driving, and a deep stainless sink with a drop-down faucet that folds away under a matching bamboo cutting board when you're done. Isotherm door-model fridge, built-in microwave, and a portable induction cooktop that stows out of sight so the counter goes back to being counter.

Water
22-gallon fresh tank tucked over the wheel well, exterior fill port with an inline hose filter, Bosch electric water heater on a timer, accumulator tank with a silencing kit so the pump doesn't announce itself at 6 a.m., and a 7-gallon grey tank on a dump valve. Hot water runs off the 120V system, shore power or inverter. Rear exterior shower off the water cabinet for rinsing yourself, your gear, and the dog after the beach.

Toilet & Seating
Tall Trelino composting toilet housed inside a hinged bench seat behind the driver — closed, it's a seat and a step; open, it's a real toilet with no wet bath eating your floor space. Both cab seats swivel, and a Lagun table with a Plyboo top swings in for meals or work, then stows alongside the bench.

Insulation & Finish
Thinsulate and sound deadening throughout. Cork flooring. Factory wall panels repurposed and upholstered where needed, with finish trim and some exposed metal for a utilitarian, adventure van finish.

Exterior
Driver and passenger flares with slider bunk windows and covers finished in Raptor liner, new slider door window, FVC roof rack, and FVC side steps.

Honest notes
With 22 gallons fresh, 7 gallons grey, and a composting toilet, this is built for weekends and multi-week trips rather than full-time living off a single fill. There's no air conditioning. Off-grid AC is an optional add-on through our shop!
